What is in a Name?
Seems a lot!
Our obviously feeble attempt at subtlety
failed dismally with the issuance of the first edition
of The Maya-Maya Bugler!
From far and wide, ranging both cultural
and linguistic differences we were bombarded with
inquiries “What on earth is a BUGGLER?”
To all who inquired and those who
just wondered if the terminology was just the meanderings
of your somewhat aged editor let me clarify the intent
once and for all!
This newsletter is intended to “blow
our own trumpet” about Maya-Maya, its history
and, more importantly, its future! Hence the term
“bugle” a non-valved instrument that depends
on the player’s ample supply of controlled wind!
You will note that our masthead now makes it easy
for the musically challenged to see what it is all
about!
Some of our members may not be surprised
to learn that, in his teens, our Chairman David, was
a bugler of no small repute! His Last Post and Reveille
were regularly performed at Remembrance Day services
(ANZAC Day) in Christ Church, New Zealand and at various
military reunions and funerals.
Readers will be pleased to know that he has substantially
run out of air!
